This Earth Day, think outside of the box. While the inclination may be to replace your incandescent bulbs with CFLs, if you really want to reduce your climate impact, think about cutting out ‘ or cutting back on ‘ your meat intake. A recent report released by Friends of the Earth Amazon, calculates that the cattle sector is responsible for as much as 50 percent of Brazil’s greenhouse gas emissions, particularly significant as the South American powerhouse is the fourth largest global greenhouse gas emitter. And believe it or not, among the many countries Brazil exports beef to, including from cows raised and slaughtered in the Amazon rainforest, are the U.S., U.K., Germany, Saudi Arabia, Israel and Cote d’Ivoire.
