Brazilian Dietary Guidelines Article Published by FCRN

Two former Brighter Green interns, Elise Birkett and Anna Davidsen Davies, recently wrote a piece for the Food Climate Research Network blog called “The Brazilian Dietary Guidelines: Impacts and prospects for food systems and nutrition in a changed political environment.” Elise is studying environmental studies and journalism at New York University and Anna is a Brazilian NYU Environmental Studies and Public Health graduate now working in the recycling sector with TerraCycle in the U.S. They write, “Perhaps now more than ever, it is essential that the Brazilian government prioritises public health and the environment over the interests of agribusiness and big business food conglomerates.” Brighter Green first wrote about the potential effect of the dietary guidelines in Brazil and other countries in Latin America when they were first published in 2014 and included discussion on them in our 2017 discussion paper, Chronic Disease, Changing Diets and Sustainability: The Globalization of Western-style Eating and Its Implications.
