Farm Sanctuary Book Released

Farm Sanctuary: Changing Hearts and Minds About Animals and Food, by Gene Baur, co-founder and president of Farm Sanctuary, has just been published by Simon & Schuster. Brighter Green’s director, Mia MacDonald, worked with Gene Baur on the book. It tells the story of Farm Sanctuary and its work over more than 20 years to bring public, policy-maker and media attention to the realities of the industrial food system and what it does to billions of farmed animals.

Baur’s book documents some of the Farm Sanctuary’s key investigations, including of downer cars in California slaughterhouses, factory farms for pigs and birds, and also describes a number of rescues involving thousands of animals or at times only one. Included in the book are stories of many of the individual animals who have come to live at Farm Sanctuary’s two shelters, and how they got there. The book also envisions ways of eating and farming that are humane, sustainable and just.

Early reviews have been great. Gene Baur is currently on a book tour. For information on where he’ll be and when, click here. For more information about Farm Sanctuary, the book, click here
