Executive Director, Mia MacDonald, along with Gene Baur of Farm Sanctuary, have written a second op-ed together called “The hurricane lays bare another risk to public health in Carolina: pig farms” in the NY Daily News. They discuss Hurricane Florence, a global climate change summit in California, and a fast-spreading virus in China that has killed tens of thousands of pigs and their connections and consequences. “Some residents of North Carolina have no option but to stay put, including the 9 million pigs being raised for meat in large, factory-style operations that spread across the eastern half of the state.
